The site of St Edward’s was originally a cemetery with a chapel. This chapel is now the church hall. A new church was built in 1968 and is joined to the hall by a Narthex. Some of the timber from the original lych gate to the cemetery was used to make the cross which hangs on the east wall of the church.

From 1968 to 1995 St Edward’s was a ‘daughter’ church of St John the Evangelist, Burgess Hill. From 1995 until 2000 both churches were administered by a team ministry until St Edward the Confessor became a parish in its own right in August 2000. Father Timothy Peskett was the first Vicar of St. Edward's and left in 2005. In 2006 Father Michael was inducted by Bishop Lindsay as St. Edward's Second Vicar.
